With all the customers I’m working with, I’m also suggesting Layered Images
I had a nightmare , with fat images - had an issue when I’ve recaptured a machine after customization, and when the patching cycle occur all of the new machines got issues with the patch and the previous machines did not…
From that day… Only layered images

And if you want to speed up the provisioning of the OS - ( I had a case that , the Subscription and Evaluation Cycle of all of the Other Sites, Caused delay with the Phases) - You can use several options:

  1. Delay subscriptions of other content sites - Delay BigFix site subscription to speed up client provisioning
  2. Group all of the provisioned machines in one automatic Group and exclude it from all of the other content sites - just make sure that end of the Provision cycle, the machine will not be on that group
