Old Color-Coding vs New Preformatted Text

I wanted to share my personal opinion regarding the recent changes in the BigFix Forum formatting. I’m not sure if I’m missing something, but the new preformatted text option seems to only highlight text with a grey background. Earlier, it used to apply proper syntax-style colour coding, similar to what we see in the Fixlet Debugger or BigFix Action Script.

It feels like that functionality may have been removed. Is anyone else experiencing this, or am I simply not using the right option?

Also, is there any ongoing discussion about reverting or bringing back the previous formatting style? I found the older colour‑coded formatting much more readable for scripts and relevance examples.

I appreciate the feedback! Would you happen to have any examples? Perhaps we can use this topic to test some scenarios, better understand what is available today, and explore potential areas for improvement in the future.

There have been some changes to the default posting UI, yes, with the primary update being a more streamlined input that integrates the preview. You can revert to the separate preview window by clicking the following button in the toolbar (top left):

Separately, for preformatted text, there is an option to select the language with which to apply syntax highlighting (there is a drop-down selector at the top-right of the preformatted text block):

We can certainly explore adding Relevance and Actionscript syntax highlighting as an option.

I reviewed the entire forum, but it appears that things have changed recently. Earlier, many topics had color-coded relevance formatting, whereas now everything is displayed in a uniform format, as shown below.

That said, this was really helpful. I did struggle a bit to activate the Pull-down formatting option, as it isn’t easily visible. After pasting the relevance, I had to insert a few extra spaces to create room in the editor, only then did the pull-down option appear, allowing me to convert the text format to multiple languages.
