Multiple files (.fxf) seen with similar names in BigFix Relays bfsites folder

Hello Team,

I am seeing the below and I am trying to understand as why we are seeing multiple files (.fxf) with same names in the Bigfix relays bfsites folder.

For Example,

A: /var/opt/BESRelay/wwwrootbes/bfmirror/bfsites/manymirror_87_7985_1999638005/Group 2597017.fxf
A: /var/opt/BESRelay/wwwrootbes/bfmirror/bfsites/manymirror_87_7986_2778931947/Group 2597017.fxf
A: /var/opt/BESRelay/wwwrootbes/bfmirror/bfsites/manymirror_87_7987_2628181565/Group 2597017.fxf
A: /var/opt/BESRelay/wwwrootbes/bfmirror/bfsites/manymirror_87_7988_2846014768/Group 2597017.fxf
A: /var/opt/BESRelay/wwwrootbes/bfmirror/bfsites/manymirror_87_7989_2208603933/Group 2597017.fxf
A: /var/opt/BESRelay/wwwrootbes/bfmirror/bfsites/manymirror_87_7990_3671511461/Group 2597017.fxf
A: /var/opt/BESRelay/wwwrootbes/bfmirror/bfsites/manymirror_87_7991_439989625/Group 2597017.fxf

This fxf file is one of the automatic computer group created on couple of days back (21st May) and since we started seeing client being crashed, we have modified on the same day (21st May) for the relevance to work properly everywhere without harming the clients.

But my question is why do we see too many files with similar names and with the latest date (today’s date)?

Can anyone please help me to understand? Thanks.

Hello!

For any given site, the Relay will often host multiple versions of that site. In the case above, for site with ID 87 for the Relay in question, there are several versions being hosted (7985-7991). It seems that this particular group has at least existed in all those site versions (though as you’ve described, they are likely different if the group has been modified).

Hello Aram,

Thanks a lot for your response.

So this is what I wanted to understand, if we do not modify anything in last 2 days, why do multiple versions of sites having the same .fxf file everywhere with files timestamp being today’s date?

Is that a normal behaviour? because I still did not get the logic behind it.

Can you please clarify more? Thnx again.

For a new version of the site to be propagated, something in the site changed (whether content was added, modified, or removed). A given site version will contain all the latest objects associated with that version. If, for instance, another group was added to this site, a new file would be created representing the group object, and all the previous objects/files would continue to exist in the new site version (and therefore would be copied to the new site folder).

Note that the timestamp of the files may be misleading in this regard, and does not necessarily reflect when a given object associated with the file has changed.

Hello Aram,

Yes I was thinking on the similar lines too, but not 100% sure about it. Thanks for all your help & clarification.
