Multiple computer search

(imported topic written by deschodt91)

I apologize if this is a stupid question, but we’re a bit confused here… Used to be that in console 7.2 you did Ctrl+F and could enter a long list of PC names or numbers (+, +, +), and “find” them all at once, view them as a group and push something to them… that’s how our field service people learned to do it anyway…

Now it seems Ctrl+F creates a Filter that does not revert to past default (so they’d all have to create one and save it), and the list of “useless” such filters created inadvertantly by our users grows longer on the left side pane, so you cannot find anything in there past day 1.

The new search box appears to only take one computer name to search, not multiple.

So, how can I replicate the old functionality ? We frequently are given a list of 10-100 PCs needing a push, and need to enter that list quickly… The filter is not really the answer anymore, it does

not

need to be persistent, just a multiple criteria search box… I must be missing something simple  Thanks !

I’m trying to understand the functional difference between 7.2 and 8. The Ctrl+F dialog provides identical functionality; you can still enter a list of names, albeit in the same slow fashion. You cannot paste a list, but you could not do that before. What exactly is different for you?

The ability to paste in a list of computers would be useful, and we’ve had design discussions around that functionality. For now, there are two methods you could use:

  1. The ad-hoc wizard list from: http://forum.bigfix.com/viewtopic.php?id=2497

  2. Target a dummy action at the list of computers, select the targeted computers and view as group (I feel dirty suggesting that, but it works).

The messy filter list sounds frustrating. Were these filters that existed before the upgrade? Do all of your users select the “Available to all operators” checkbox?
