I am patching a clients environment and noticed that KB4550929 has been superseded by KB4550947.
However, BigFix has KB4550929 available in the console but has not got KB4550947 available and so the customers Server 2016 environment thinks this servers still requires patching.
What is the different between KB4550929 and KB4550947?
Why isn’t KB4550947 available in BigFix?
KB4550947 was released by MS on April 21st.
Considering it is not a security update, the turnaround time should be within a week of when it was released by MS.
They’re both named the same: “2020-04 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems”. This is according to https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com.
How can you determine this isn’t a security update? What type of update is it then?
One easy way is to look at the update’s “Classification” in the MS catalog.
KB4550947 is an “Update”, meaning it doesn’t fix any security issues since that last released cumulative update.
If it is a security update, you will see it classified as “Security Update”. i.e. KB4550929
