I installed BigFix earlier today (about 8 hours ago) and the “BigFix Management” domain has still not showed up. I’ve read through a bunch of threads on here that talk about proxies or air-gapped servers but that doesn’t apply in this case. The server is able to access the Internet without an issue.
I see in GatherDB.log this line: “Unexpected exception during gather of site BES Support: Unexpected HTTP response: 404” and the Gather Status Report shows “Error Message: 2: GetURL failure on http://sync.bigfix.com/bfsites/bessupport_1388/EncryptionModule.js: HTTP Error 28: Timeout was reached”. The BES services are running with a domain account, I logged into the server using that account and tried to download that file with IE and it worked fine.
Any suggestions about any other troubleshooting steps or logs I should be looking at?
It is likely that your internet proxy is filtering certain file types such as the .js file you referenced above. This is very common. The site download is an all or nothing affair. You should check with your network/security team and see if they have anything in their logs to prove/disprove that theory.

Even if there’s not a “proxy” to configure, many large companies will configure a “transparent” proxy or have some kind of HTTP inspection active on firewalls that can interfere. And smaller companies can have their ISP inserting ads, tracking cookies, etc. that interfere. Not that American ISPs would ever do that…oh wait they do
Easiest way is to open the BigFix Console and go to the computer list, right-click the root server and select “Edit Settings”, type in the setting name and value, click OK and Ok again to send out the configuration setting via an action.
