MDT Bundle Creator - Parameters.ini file

(imported topic written by Don65)

The “parameters.ini” file in MDT bundle creator version 3.2.20 came with the following entries.

Location to USMT 4 files. These are necessary to migrate user data from Vista computers

This can be taken from a Windows AIK installation.

;usmt4x86location=C:\Tools\USMT\USMT4\x86

;usmt4x64location=C:\Tools\USMT\USMT4
\x64

The parameters.ini file in the latest MDT bundle creator version 3.5.06 came with the following entries

Location to USMT 4 files. These are necessary to migrate user data to Vista computers

This can be taken from a Windows AIK installation.

;usmt4x86location=C:\Tools\USMT\USMT4\x86

;usmt4x64location=C:\Tools\USMT\USMT4
x86

The USMT4 folder contains the following two subfolders.

x86

amd64

Should “usmt4x64location” point to the “amd64” folder?

I think you are right, we will address it. (probably in next MDTBundleCreator)

Consider that is a commented line and latest Windows toolkits should embed USMT (WADK8 has USMT5)

Thanks a lot!

Yes, needs to be uncommented to leverage USMT4.

I didn’t see any references to USMT 5 in parameters.ini. Is USMT 5 currently an option or does it also need to be addressed in a future MTBundleCreator? USMT 5 requires a hotfix to migrate Office 2013 settings.

WADK8.1 has USMT 6.3. However, USMT 6.3 cannot backup settings from Windows XP.

Starting from latest WADK, USMT should have been included directly in the WADK installation so during the MDT Bundle creation we should be taking directly from WADK installation folder (without needing a path in the paramters.ini file)
