MDM - C2DM (Cloud to Device Messaging)

(imported topic written by ShigeT)

Hi,

I want to notify immediately to the Android device.

(=“push” notification)

Can MDM of TEM notify immediately for Android device?

For example, can use the C2DM of Google?

Thanks!

Hi Shige,

The current version of the TEM agent has support for C2DM but recently Google deprecated this service in favor of GCM (Google Cloud Messaging), meaning that users can no longer register accounts with C2DM or rely on it to deliver messages in time.

Good news is that the next release of the TEM agent for Android (out in the next couple of weeks) will have support for GCM so push notifications will work as soon as you update to the new version.

Hi Miguel,

Thank you for reply.

Ok! I understand support of “GCM” is next release.

I want to try “C2DM” in the current version,

but I couldn’t find the configuration information.(e.g. Wiki for TEM)

I need some informations about “C2DM” for TEM. (or how to notify immediately for Android)

Please tell me where i can find it.

Thanks!!

Hi Shige,

Miguel was referring to the fact that the IBM Mobile Client itself can receive C2DM notifications, but we actually don’t have the piece that sends the notification in the product today.

What happened was that we updated the IBM Mobile Client to accept C2DM and we were going to release the C2DM notification components, but then when Google deprecated C2DM in favor of GCM, we decided to immediately switch to GCM rather than release support for something that would be immediately deprecated.

We will add the GCM notification piece shortly (along with an agent update that can receive them).

Hope that helps,

Ben
