Hi netsecurity,

Are you using the new version of Power Management (http://forum.bigfix.com/viewtopic.php?id=5555) or the older version? What version of the platform are you running (7.X or 8.0)?

If possible, I highly recommend getting the new version of Power Management as it has a lot of updated features, including enhanced power tracking to track time in idle, off, active, and standby.

Also, just curious what’s driving the desire to power machines off rather than let them go into standby?

We’ve found that many of our customers these days take advantage of standby mode because the difference in power savings between the off state and the standby state is minimal. For example, a typical desktop consumes around 3 watts when in standby and about 0.5-1 watts when in the off state (because things like the Ethernet card are still powered on).

So standby now provides almost the same savings as the powered off state, with the benefit that users can quickly resume the machine from the low-power state by moving their mouse, striking a key on the keyboard, or hitting the power button and their desktop will also resume as they left it.

Regardless of the approach you decide to move forward with (powered off or standby), we can help you accomplish your use-case.
