Linux Scan Points - Asset Discovery

(imported topic written by JesseR91)

Is it not possible to designate a Linux system as a NMAP Scan point? How is this not available to do? The relevance for the Designate Nmap Scan Point states only Windows OS’es.

Hi JesseR,

There is not a technical reason that the NMAP scan can not be run on Linux/Unix, but we never published a Fixlet for it. I think I saw someone might have made a custom Fixlet for this and I will see if I can dig it up and post it here.

Hi JesseR,

Attached to this post (must be logged into the forum to see the downloads) is a Fixlet that is used to run NMAP scans from Linux computers. The Fixlet will not install the NMAP components and instead expects that the NMAP components are installed and in the path.

This is not extensively tested and I strongly suggest you test it before using in production.

If anyone wants to enhance the Fixlet, please post your results.
