I am new to IBM Inventory and was wondering if the tool collects the actual license in any cases? Can the tool be configured to collect license file contents?
I see the later version does some collection of VMware licenses but interested about other vendors.
BigFix Inventory detects software installations based on signatures which are supplied by IBM in a Software Catalog. The catalog is updated about once per month, and it can be extended with custom signatures for software not included by IBM.
Reports have recently been been added to BFI which perform license metric calculations for VMware and Microsoft SQL Server. Look in the Knowledge Base on IBM for more details about these reports: What is New in BigFix Inventory
I presume that when you refer to license files, you are talking about text files with the license agreement verbiage. This type of information is not collected by BFI. What is your use case for the license file contents?
