KB2989647 does NOT supersede KB2975061 (2012r2)

(imported topic written by Bill.Ehardt)

You have fixlet KB2975061 (ID 297506103) marked as Superseded by KB2989647 (ID 298964705). However, this is not the case.

Issue:

KB2919355 is required on Windows 2012r2 moving forward. That had a pre-req of KB2919442.

You guys state that KB2975061 supersedes KB2919442. While the files are the same, technically this doesn’t replace it per Microsoft. That’s ok in this scenario, however you state that KB2975061 is superseded by KB2989647. Again, MS does NOT say that this replaces the 061 update. The problem with the relevance is that per Microsoft, KB2989647 has a requirement of KB2919355.

What this means is that if I have a new server without any of the KB2919442 or KB2975061 updates, there is no fixlets available to update Windows 2012r2 with all the latest patches.

Hope this makes sense… someone needs to fix this.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for reporting the issue. We follow mainly Microsoft Update Catalog for non security KB supersedence, and KB2989647 does replace KB2975061 and KB2919442. However, as you pointed out, this supersedence made KB2919355 not possible to install due to the lack of prerequisite.

We are discussing this issue and will post a reply here as soon as possible.

Thank you!

Hi Bill,

KB2919442 has been un-superseded to facilitate the installation of KB2919355. The updated content will be published to site: Patches for Windows (English), version 2083.

Thank you!
