Java 6 u16 removing old version but not always installing Java 6 u16!

The computers had Java 6 u13. I deployed Java 6 u16 and most completed correctly but 4 (out of 30) had the old version uninstalled but the new version did not install.

I know from installing Java manually that you have to close Internet Explorer to install. Is it possible that the 4 that did not get the new version had IE open when BigFix was trying to install the new version?

If so what is the best work-around? If not, any other ideas as to why the new version did not install?

I noticed that we had issues installing java while IE was open. Now I install java updates with the option “Run only when there is no user logged on” set under the users tab while setting up the action. That has worked for us.

Thanks for the tip. I’d rather not start with ‘offer boxes’ so 'll give it a try.
