Issues with RedHat Download Cacher

(imported topic written by r11ce91)

Hello…

We are trying to get our hands around RedHat patching and are having issues with the RedHat Download Cacher. When we use the “Cache RPM” option in the Linux RPM Patching Dashboard the action that is supposed to download the specific RPM’s for the Custom Fixlet we created is not downloading those RPM’s. It instead tries to download every RPM that is not cached on our Main BES.

Looking at the action created by the “Cache RPM” it looks like it is using a --file switch with a file name of rpm_name_sha1 which contains the list of RPM’s contained in the Custom Fixlet created in the Linux RPM Patching Dashboard.

Am I missing something here? Shouldn’t the action created by the “Cache RPM” download only the specific RPM’s specified in the Custom Fixlet? I tried running the RHELDownloadCacher.exe manually with all the switches specified in the action including the --file switch. Sure enough the download cacher started going through all RPM’s instead of the ones specified in rpm_name_sha1.

Would appreciate any insight with this issue. Thanks!

Hello,

I got this response from our developer:

"I’ve done several runs and everything’s working fine for me. The download cacher is downloading the appropriate files.

I tried the possibility that maybe an empty or non-existent rpm list could cause the download cacher to download all (kind of unclear as to what the user means by “all”) files. If there’s an empty rpm list, then no files get downloaded. If the rpm list is non-existent, then the download cacher will error out and not download anything.

We’ll definitely need to see the action the user is issuing as well as the download cacher logs in order to help debug any further."

So it seems like maybe contacting support is the way to go…
