Issues with Bigfix Relay Selection

(imported topic written by ryel.d91)

Hi,

I am facing a problem where the bigfix client is not selecting the desired relay when set to automatic bes ralay selction in the console. Following is my scenarioa as mentioned below

B1(bigix server) is connected to R1 (Bigfix Relay @ Location1) & R2 (Bigfix Relay @ Location2)

R1 is then connected to C1 (desktop) & R2 is then connected to C2 (desktop)

The challenge faced over here is that the desktop eg: C1 is picking R2 as the relay and not R1.

The network settings are correct at this location.

Hope to here from you soon

Regards,

C1 will pick R2 if the hopcount of R2 is lower then R1. Also, I would confirm that ICMP is open from C1 to R1. If it isn’t, then the client couldn’t determine R1’s hopcount and would select R2.

You may want to consider deploying BigFix Relay Affiliation:

Yes, try the various troubleshooting including turning on debug logging, running client diags, and turn off debug logging. Examining the logic the client used to determine if R2 was the appropriate relay to choose is helpful.

Anyways, depending on the number of endpoints, relay affiliation might be good here. It will let you group your relays by preference. Using affiliation you can ensure that C1 doesn’t consider R2 a relay it is allowed to use.
