We are evaluating our implementation of IPv6 and I wondered if some of you guys already use BigFix with IPv6? Do you have any comments on the below points? Your input will be greatly appreciated.
The BigFix version that we are currently running is v.7.2.5.22 on the clients and 7.2.4.60 on the server and some of the relays. The server and the relays are on Windows Server 2003 and the clients and some relays are on Win XP and Win 7. We currently do not use IPv6. We also plan to upgrade to BigFix v.8 some time soon.
Are there any IPv6 limitations in BigFix?
Should we expect any issues with the client to connect to the relays and the server, if client is installed on computer that is configured only with IPv6 address?
Are there any specific requirements regarding the IPv6 support in the following components:
I would assume all works just fine with BigFix and IPv6. BigFix/IBM support says The TEM platform – server, console, relay, client – has been tested/qualified in an IPv6 environment.
Still I will greatly appreciate any comments, any special configurations recommended with regards to IPv6, or are there any other special considerations, dos & don’ts, rules or guidelines or best practices?
We spent an awful lot of time enabling IPv6 support and we would expect all platform components to work with IPv6 (but I don’t think the BigFix Firewall – which is based on a third party product – is IPv6 enabled)…
I think you need to be at 8.1 (or maybe 8.0… I will need to check the changelist) for the latest IPv6 support…
Having said all that, I don’t think IPv6-based BigFix is very commonly used so proceed with caution.
