Invalid action content: the action script contains a syntax error. on less than 1% of the endpoints

Run Capacity and Upload Results (ILMT/BFI HW scan)
is failing on a mix of 24 windows and linux VMs out of 7,131 VMs with error
Invalid action content: the action script contains a syntax error.

How to troubleshoot, as the fixlet is working on 99% of the VMs, I can’t see how there could be a syntax error on 24 out of 7,131 VMs.

If its smart enough to know there is a syntax error, why not describe what that is

Any suggestions?

Does the issue recur and if so is it on the same 24 machines? Does it fail if you send a one-time action?

Rerunning the Run Capacity Scan and Upload Results got 22 out of 24 running without errors and the 2 that did error out failed with different error this time.

Why does this happen?

Also, if a computer fails with an error, will it not retry in 30min as that is what
Run Capacity Scan and Upload Results
is supposed to run every 30 minutes.

Or does a failed target in a policy action not get retried when the action is retried.

“Retry” and “Reapply” are separate options. Your action might only have ‘Reapply’, so the schedule re-runs regularly, without having ‘Retry on failure’ configured.

To troubleshoot one would need to review the client logs. Possibly even enable client debug logging and review the logs with deeper levels of debug logging configured. If you’d like to open a support ticket the team can step you through how to configure and review the logging.
