Install client with newer version than the server

I have always thought that this is not supported, but cannot find anything documented about it.
This has now happened at few of my customers running ILMT (BigFix 10) that the IT Department they download the latest version (11) of the client and install it, despite my written instructions.
Is that OK? It seems to work.
Any comments?

I would echo your post - it does work just fine (I’ve done it on numerous occasions usually when support for newer OS is added within new version but have not had the chance to upgrade the platform yet) but I would think it is officially not supported scenario (haven’t reviewed the documentation for that).
