What is the plan at BigFix regarding the end of support for Win10 in October? Will running the Console on Win10 continue to be supported? Will Client updates continue or will you freeze the development of the client at the current patch levels in BigFix 10 and 11? How about patch support for non-OS applications and components like .NET?
Hello, fellow BigFix veteran.
Historically speaking, and without having talked to our product team, I would expect us to take a similar path to other Windows OS EOL moments.
Existing BF agents would continue to work, but somewhere along the way we would stop making updates to agents that are specific to Win 10.When we drop support from future agent releases, the older agents would still run and work with the newer platforms, until an OS library blocks things, like happened with WinXP and TLS1.3 support for example.
New patch release only via special MS ESU type approaches, like Windows 2012 and 7 are today.
Console will be fine until some critical library prevents future updates, but we would slowly move towards not supporting console on EOL OS.
One of the BigFix PMs will have a more formal response closer to the October date.
