I have a Windows 2008 R2 server whose BES Client shuts down about 4 minutes after startup with this error in the BES client log:

   Unhandled error: Windows Error 0x3fa: Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion.
   Client shutdown (Unexpected error)

A Windows dialog box appeared on the server with this text:
Windows could not start the BES Client on servername. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 29.

What happens if you reboot the server, remove the BES Client and reinstall it?

I would also recommend installing the newest version of the client to see if that helps at all.

The client was uninstalled (using BESremove tool) and reinstalled and it fixed the issue.
