IEM in an ITIL Change Management Framework

(imported topic written by Tim.Rice)

Has anyone else been involved in a migration to an ITIL framework?

We are implementing ITIL Change Management and the push seems to be to require at least standard change requests for ANY change to ANYTHING, including the Fixlet and Task content from IBM.

I’m curious how other organizations have approached this. How does IEM/TEM fall into your Change Management processes.

  • How granular do you go with your Change Request Management system?
  • Do you submit change requests for new Fixlets/Tasks? From IBM?
  • Do you air gap your IEM/TEM system to prevent ANY changes until they have been submitted for review?
  • Do you submit change requests only for Actions taken through IEM/TEM?

I selfishly want to take the position that ITIL covers Changes to Systems (clients, relays, servers), not necessarily the Content (fixlets, tasks, etc) in the systems. I’d prefer to only have to submit a Change Request when I submit an Action in IEM/TEM, not when I write a Fixlet or Task. Am I off base here, or is this the kind of decision that is too ‘personal’ to a company to be broadly applied?
