IBM BigFix Patch for RHEL releases task to check updates that are available for your endpoints

IBM BigFix Patch for Red Hat Enterprise Linux released a task to help identify if your Red Hat Enterprise Linux endpoints have YUM updates that must be installed.

When you run the ID 39: YUM: Check Available Package Updates task, a column is added in the YUM Logs analysis which shows if your endpoints have updates that must be installed. Ensure that the YUM packages are available in your repository since the the task uses the repository in your deployment.

This enhancement is supported on the following sites:

  • Patches for RHEL 6 - Native Tools site
  • Patches for RHEL 7

Actions to take

  1. Ensure that the YUM Logs analysis is activated.
  2. Ensure that your endpoint uses a repository and that the YUM packages are available in your repository.
  3. Run Task ID 39 - YUM: Check Available Package Updates, which is found in Patching Support site, version 374.
  4. Go to Patching Support > Analyses > Analysis: YUM Logs. From the Results tab, you can check the results of the analysis in the YUM check-update output column.
