hey there - any chance you can explain something on these java patches? I’m trying to figure out how they’ve changed them and best practices going forward.

1: so they release two versions of the update at the same time. from what I can tell, 161 is the release for security updates, and 162 is security updates, plus some new features … is that accurate? which should be deployed to a general production use case - 161?

2: does that mean that 171 will contain the new features from 162 if we aren’t pushing the ‘#2’ version of the update?

3: why do the tasks/fixlets now have ‘CPU’ included at the end of the task name? or it seems the 151, 161 etc updates have it, but the 152 and 162 etc… do not?

Hi,
Maybe this explanation from Oracle will help in understanding the difference between the 2 releases.
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/cpu-psu-explained-2331472.html

The security updates, 161, are referred as Critical Patch Updates (CPU) and we had got request from users to help identify the security updates easily when 2 versions of JRE are released, so we have been adding ‘CPU’ in fixlet names for the security update version.
