Our security team has deemed that http port 8080 is a risk and has closed the port. We have temporarily setup BigFix to use socks port 1080. Can we continue to use this port or will this cause future issues?

Hi smill,
I’m not sure I follow. Did you set BigFix to use port 8080 in the masthead or are you referring to the Web Reports port? What did you change exactly to use port 1080 instead of 8080?

We changed the IE settings on our BigFix server to go from a http port 8080 proxy to a socks 1080 proxy

Ah, ok. Yes, the BES Gather Service goes to the internet and will pull your IE proxy settings if you set the service to run as a specific account. It will happily use any proxy address and port combination that you provide.
You shouldn’t have any problem using 1080, 8080 or any other port for this purpose.

Hi Amrat,
It sounds like you have a corrupted install of some sort… there should be a gather service… you might try to uninstall, restart your computer, and reinstall and see if the gather service works again.
