By using bigfix can we capture the windows os image ? please mention the steps
Hi,
It is not possible, unless you combine BigFix with fe. a virtual machine hosting system (like, say, ESX), ordering it to execute operations you require, as imaging a machine.
Thanq for the response. Can you explain some what brief.
Hi,
You may want to find a tool that makes your actual work (like API package for ESX), install the tool at a convenient location, and create a fixlet to make requested operations under specified conditions.
For you reference, here’s information about fixlet authoring: https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/wikis/home?lang=en#!/wiki/Tivoli%20Endpoint%20Manager/page/Fixlet%20Authoring
Do you mean to capture a Windows system to a WIM image for mass redeployment? Yes, BigFix can do that, using the “OS Deployment and Bare Metal Imaging” site. It’s available with the license for “BigFix for Lifecycle Management”.
This Site has dashboards for managing the imaging process - it will download a copy of Microsoft Deployment Toolkit to the “gold” system, execute Sysprep, capture to a WIM image, and upload the image to a UNC path. From there you use the “Image Library” dashboard to retrieve the WIM image and upload it to the BigFix server. Once the image is on the server, you can “redeploy” it to existing clients that are already running and have a BES client installed.
The Bare Metal Imaging portion of the dashboards will help you set up a “Bare Metal Imaging” server (formerly known as Tivoli Provisioning Manager for OS Deployment). With a proper DHCP set up for PXE booting, you can leverage this to network-boot new clients that have no OS installed, and deploy the captured image to the new target machines.
There is a lot to learn, more than I could post here, but the imaging site supports (at least) Windows and Red Hat Linux, PXE booting, and OS redeployment. Search this forum for “Bare Metal” or IBM’s other sites for “TPMfOSD”.
I Was unable to get the “OS Deployment and Bare Metal Imaging” site in the system life cycle .and the version is 9.2.6.94…
May be this site is not yet enabled. You have enable the site from License Management overview.
Should have pretty much everything you need.
Of course you first have to enable the site. If you have Lifecycle management, it will be there, unless you have the starter edition.
