How does BESClient determine restart needed for Macs?

All the BigFix docs explain how the Windows client determines if a restart is pending. How does the client determine this on Mac OS X computers?

The BigFix client cannot detect if a Mac machine is in a pending restart state.

I’ve been annoyed that BigFix’ content for patching Office 2016 sets it to require a restart… when MS’ directly downloaded patches do not.
