How do I create a custom filter for a large amount of computers?

Hello everyone,

I have a bit of a challenge and could use some guidance. I’ve been given a list of 400 computers that need to be updated, and I need to create a baseline specifically for these machines.

However, there’s an issue—some of these computers may not be reporting to BigFix at the moment. Because of this, relying solely on relevance targeting might not be the best approach right now.

I was wondering:

  1. What’s the best way to target a specific list of devices, even if some are not currently reporting?
  2. Is there a way to force these machines to check in before deploying the baseline?
  3. Would using manual groups, CSV imports, or another method be the most effective way to ensure deployment?

Any insights, best practices, or workarounds would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Server based Computer groups may be the way to go. The Group is evaluated by the Console based on the latest data from the Clients.

Another option would be to use simple text lists, if the list corresponds with the Computer names being reported by the clients. It may be helpful to break the list into smaller increments (50 or 100 per, for easier reporting).
