Hostname change by itself after successful in-place upgrade

Hi,

Lately my teammate perform bigfix in-place upgrade and the Microsoft Windows image was successfully upgraded, however my teammate found out that 20 out of 100 endpoints hostname changed by itself without applying any additional commands, for additional information these endpoints are configured accordingly and join domain, thereafter a period of time then my team apply in-place upgrade whenever new Windows version released to the market.

We had been using in-place upgrade for the past 5 years and did not encounter such problem, i would like to ask if anyone encounter such problem and is able to share or advise?

I’ve not seen hostnames change by themselves for no reason, but there’s likely something in the Windows Event Log to reference.

Hostnames do get reset to random values beginning with “WIN-” if one were to run Sysprep (or the “Capture” task sequence, which runs sysprep)
