BigFix team is pleased to announce that the first version of HCL BigFix Patch Workbench is now Available!
What is it
HCL BigFix Patch Workbench is a solution designed to streamline and automate the patch management process by integrating HCL BigFix with the ServiceNow platform. It aims to overcome common challenges such as a lack of coordination between patching tools and ITSM solutions, delays due to Change Advisory Board (CAB) approvals, and manual efforts required to synchronize Configuration Management Database (CMDB) and close Change Requests.Patch Workbench is a ServiceNow App
Highlights:
Bidirectional Data Synchronization: BigFix Patch Workbench provides bidirectional integration with ServiceNow, ensuring continuous synchronization of Computers, Groups, Fixlets, and Baselines across both platforms.
Patch Change Request Submission: BigFix Patch Workbench provides custom forms to submit Patch Change Requests, including patch and target details, which then trigger the approval workflow in ServiceNow.
Automated Patch Deployment: Patch Workbench tracks each Change Request and automatically deploys approved patches to the specified targets during the defined Maintenance Window, removing the need for manual deployment and reducing errors from miscommunication.
Change Request and CMDP Updates: Patch Workbench updates deployment status in ServiceNow and automatically closes Change Requests upon completion, reducing manual effort and human error.
Who Gets Access?
HCL BigFix Patch Workbench can be installed for free from the ServiceNow store, but it requires at least BigFix Remediate license in order to integrate it with BigFix.
Requirements:
HCL BigFix v.11 (or above)
ServiceNow versions supported: Yokohama, Xanadu, Washington DC
ServiceNow ITSM
ServiceNow CMDB and Change Management modules must be enabled
I had to ferret out the info from the product datasheets, and confirmed it using the License Overview Dashboard in BigFix Management. If you open the bottom pane called Sites, you can see which Sites are entitled with which Products (depending on which Products you are licensed for, of course).
Remediate lies between Patch and Lifecycle in terms of capabilities (not necessarily exhaustive, its a moving target ).
Lifecycle Includes:
Remediate
Advanced Patching
Query
OS Deployment
Remote Control
Power Management
Server Automation
Profile Management
MCM
Remediate includes:
Patch
Updates for Extended 3rd Party Mac/Windows Applications
Interesting. Maybe its change since that TA video was put together. I do see CyberFOCUS listed under the Lifecycle module on my lab in the License Overview, though perhaps that may be inherited from one of the other modules
Workspace (for non-Servers) and Enterprise (for Servers), without the “+”, encompasses everything but the AI capabilities. It is surprisingly affordable, if you are considering any two of the bigger products like Compliance, Inventory, or Lifecycle, since it is the ultimate product offering HCL would like all ther customers to utilize.
