Having trouble with console users changing their passwords

(imported topic written by Marlon91)

We have our environment setup with users that are not domain admins accessing the database using their console login, not NT. Once they get their original password they cannot change it to whatever they want (Access Denied). Is this a database setting or BigFix setting and how can we fix that?

Thank you,

Marlon

Hey Marlon,

To clarify, are they trying to change their Database Password or their Private Key password when they get this error? (Are they able to do one but not the other).

There are two passwords you can change in the BES Console:

  1. File->Change Database Password

  2. Tools->Manage Signing Keys->Change Password

Could you also include the full error message?

it’s when they try to change the key password. Since that’s also what they are using to access the database I imagined it was the same in this case.

Ok, the default is to make the username/password the same for the database and the key files but since there is an error it’s important to know which one we are taking about. Also, you may want to change both the passwords if you want the login password to the be same as the action propagation password.

As far as the error message, are the keys located on a network share that the users don’t have write access to?
