GatherDB Fail getting updates

I have started a new installation of BigFix 10.0.10 from scratch.
no issue in the installation and console connection working.
however.
it does not seem to get the basic BES Support site
I’m seeing in GatherDB.log
Sun, 19 Nov 2023 14:43:49 +0000 – Unexpected exception during gather of site BES Support: Unexpected HTTP response: 404

there is no proxy in my environement, I’ve tries everything but still same issue.
does someone have any idea ?

thanks.

I would recommend open case with HCL.

This typically occurs for a few reasons, such as proxy, firewall, AV problems, or corruption.

I’ve seen this problem a lot, but in my situation, it was with compliance sites which was related to some internal DB issue, where it was usually OK to remove and re-add from the console. If that didn’t work, removing it from the database and adding it again from the console was the final fix.

However, in your situation, the issue relates to the BES Support site, which cannot be removed. Therefore, instead of tampering with the system, open a case for a thorough investigation.

Also, on the root server use a web browser to see whether you can reach the site. You may find there’s a proxy in place that you didn’t expect. Use a browser or ‘curl’ command line to open http://sync.bigfix.com/cgi-bin/bfgather/bessupport

If your browser/firewall allows HTTPS but not HTTP, you could also apply the client setting _BESGather_Use_Https on the root server (see https://help.hcltechsw.com/bigfix/10.0/platform/Platform/Config/c_https_gathering.html#c_https_configuration ).

That setting will help with gathering sites, but will not necessarily allow you to download all the patches; some of the vendor-provided download urls are provided in HTTP form, so you may need to allow HTTP for some of the downloads.

In this case, the Gather Status Report (https://<bigfix root server>:52311/cgi-bin/bfenterprise/besgathermirrornew.exe) would be more helpful for troubleshooting than the GatherDB log. What does it show for this site?

Thanks all,
I’ve manage to do a workaround via Airgap,

i will open a case since i think Gather still does not work.

Sorry to hijack this post OP, but I am having similar issues but with CIS 2019 DC and MS external sites.

Both sites are 1 version behind

Output from https://rootserver:52311/cgi-bin/bfenterprise/besgathermirrornew.exe using the browser from the rootserver itself:

Id: 73 Date: Fri, 22 Mar 2024 02:21:01 +0000 Version: 19
Url: http://sync.bigfix.com/cgi-bin/bfgather/ciswin2019dc

Id: 76 Date: Fri, 22 Mar 2024 02:51:07 +0000 Version: 15
Url: http://sync.bigfix.com/cgi-bin/bfgather/ciswin2019ms

The sites on the console are one behind respectively, so 18 and 14.

GatherDB.log file is full of the following:

Thu, 21 Mar 2024 22:20:58 -0400 – Unexpected exception during gather of site CIS Checklist for Windows Server 2019 MS: Unexpected HTTP response: 404
Thu, 21 Mar 2024 22:21:01 -0400 – Unexpected exception during gather of site CIS Checklist for Windows Server 2019 DC: Unexpected HTTP response: 404

We have other external sites that are syncing with no issues as you can see from a few of these imports in the log:

I can reach both of the gather sites from the rootserver no issues:

http://sync.bigfix.com/cgi-bin/bfgather/ciswin2019dc

and

http://sync.bigfix.com/cgi-bin/bfgather/ciswin2019ms

Thanks!

Usually means your license is expired. Check your License Overview dashboard or open a support ticket to check it out.

Maybe - But the CIS content is part of Compliance and they seem to be gathering patch content sites which are also part of compliance.

However - They could have Compliance and Lifecycle or Lifecycle Starter and have expired Compliance licenses only - Which would explain why the patch sites are still gathering.

@ceez - I will send you a private message as I can check here on the backend for you quickly.

Hi @DanPaquette, thanks for the offer, but I’ve been told to go through our line of communication to get this solved. I will update when resolved (hoping it’s a license issue indeed)

@ceez Ok. We are standling by to help should you need it.
