Gather problems

(imported topic written by SystemAdmin)

Hi!

I currently experience problems gathering some sites. From http://127.0.0.1:52311/cgi-bin/bfenterprise/BESGatherMirrorNew.exe on the server:

We are running 8.2.1093.

Any ideas why this happens?

We’ve been having some intermittent issues with the sync servers.

I assume those errors are transient and that you are able to gather sites later in the day?

The securitypolicymanager problem is fixed, but avclient, bessupport, macpatches, patchingsupport, solarispatches and updateswindowsapps still fails with “class FileStartingBytesNotRecognized”.

To me, it looks like I am able to download the new site contents, but the DBGatherService have problems reading the files?

Nothing interesting in GatherDB.log, btw.

Yeah, we’re seeing this too. The sync URLs load fine in a web browser and there are no GatherDB.log errors, but I have FileStartingBytesNotRecognized errors in BESRelay.log starting on 3/26/2012.

We’re actively working to fix it… please stand by.

We had a sync server that was handing out bad data (not compressed correctly, I believe). This was causing the problem.

We’re back on good sync servers now so the problem is resolved on our end.

However, if there is infrastructure between IBM and your TEM/BigFix server that is caching the bad fixlet data then you will continue to see errors until that cache clears.

Needless to say there is a lot of post-mortem activity going on in Emeryville to ensure that this doesn’t happen again.

Thanks Noah!

The GatherState.xml file records errors in the BES Relay or BES Server gathering Fixlet sites. If a BES Relay or the BES Server fails to gather a Fixlet site the BES Clients will not receive updates for the sites with failures.

When I check the URL I got this mssage:

Failed:

Id: 15 Date: Wed, 24 Apr 2013 06:12:52 +0000
Url:
http://sync.bigfix.com/cgi-bin/bfgather/patchingsupport
Error Message: 15: GetURL failure on
http://sync.bigfix.com/bfsites/patchingsupport_63/BFArchive: HTTP Error 56: Failure when receiving data from the peer: Recv failure: Connection was aborted

Any suggestions?
