Galaxy Nexus using Chrome Beta not download as an APK

(imported topic written by SystemAdmin)

When I downloaded the APK file from the link it downloaded and renamed the file with a .zip extension. Once I changed the extension it installed and configured without an issue. May be a Chrome issue but thought people should be aware. Also curious if it happens with Dolphin or other non-standard broswers.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the note… Android .apk files (the Android installer packages) are inherently .zip file and somehow the browser or our download servers figure that out and rename it automatically… I have never quite figured out why this is the case or what to change to fix it…

Were you downloading this from your desktop or from a Chrome browser on an Android device? The native browser on most Android devices today don’t seem to have this issue so hopefully it won’t come up much…
