Fixlets for Skype for Business are now available on the Patch Management for Windows site

Skype has recently rebranded Lync to Skype for Business, which is now integrated into the Microsoft Office product family.

IBM Endpoint Manager Fixlets for Skype were previously published on the Updates for Windows Applications site. With Lync’s rebranding, Fixlets for Skype for Business are now available from the Patches for Windows site for users of Lync 2013.

  • If you are an existing Lync 2013 user and are subscribed to the Patches for Windows site, you only need to gather the site.
  • If you are an existing user of the consumer Skype version, Fixlets for Skype are still available in the Updates for Windows Applications site. No further action is required.
  • If you are an existing Skype for Business user (the earlier version before the Lync rebranding): When you use the Skype 7.5.0.102 Available Fixlet on the Updates for Windows Applications site, your Skype version will not upgrade to the new rebranded Skype for Business version, but instead be changed to the Skype personal version.

It is highly recommended that you refer to the Microsoft Office and Skype support sites for guidance about your Skype version.

How does Patch Management for Windows handle the rebranding to Skype for Business?
IBM Endpoint Manager for Patch Management has made the Skype for Business Fixlets available on the Patches for Windows site, instead of the Updates for Windows Applications site.

Is there any action I need to take?
Existing Lync 2013 users only need to gather the Patches for Windows site. If you use the consumer Skype version that is available on the Updates for Windows Applications site, there is no action required from you.

Will the rebranding affect the deployment of Skype for Business Fixlets?
Other than having the content available on the Patches for Windows site, the rebranding does not change how the Fixlets for Skype for Business are deployed.

I am an existing Skype for Business user. Can I use the Skype 7.5.0.102 Available Fixlet to upgrade to the rebranded Skype for Business version?
If you are an existing user of the Skype for Business version prior to the Lync rebranding, using the Skype 7.5.0.102 Available Fixlet (from the Updates to Windows Applications site) changes your Skype version to the Skype personal version. The Skype 7.5.0.102 Available Fixlet does not upgrade your Skype version to the current rebranded Skype for Business version.
