Fixlet Repository

(imported topic written by cstoneba)

I had a thought that is would be beneficial if users could upload custom fixlets and BigFix could house them, allowing users to download already created fixlets and not have to recreate them. We all have custom content that I’m sure other people could find useful.

Any thoughts?

Hey cstoneba,

yes… we have been thinking about this lately… originally the forum was supposed to allow this because you could import/export Fixlets and attach them to posts… and we do a lot of that, but I think we could have a better system…

We are currently working on a “BigFix Labs” area where we will publish interesting things that aren’t quite products, but this doesn’t fully address what you are looking for…

Any thoughts on what might be cool to help everyone trade Fixlets?

How about something as simple as a category on the forum that is dedicated to fixlet posts?

I like the idea of being able to come to a single site for interactive Q&A as well as a shared fixlet repository.

That works too Tratz. My concern though, is that if it is in a forum (and depends how it is setup), a user will have to scroll and scroll to browse for a fixlet. What I am thinking is some form of hierarchical method (my apologizes for the formatting)

That would be very nice!

And then when you click on (for example, Reset Group Policy settings.bes) another window will open. Here, you can read a summary of the fixlet that was written by the author, see any reviews, # of downloads, and then download the fixlet.

These are good ideas… let me see what we can do… it might be a little while before we can spend much time on this though…
