Files hidden from client?

So I wanted to survey the file versions of manage-bde.exe, the Bitlocker config tool, in System32. Problem is BES client doesn’t think it exists. I tried looking for it both as a file and as a descendant of the folder, and even when I list all file or descendant objects of the folder in both cases manage-bde.exe, manage-bde,wsf, and ManageCl.dll are just completely missing from the output.

Permissions seem normal, SYSTEM has at least read access to the file, the file isn’t hidden, there’s nothing special about it that I can ascertain, so why is it missing from the directory as far as BES can see?

Further, since this made me curious, I ran number of files of folder “C:\Windows\System32” and the output was roughly HALF of the file count according to explorer. So, yeah, what gives?

Thank you all for your time.

32-bit agent in a 64-bit environment. you can use “native system folder” in this case:

q: version of file "manage-bde.exe" of system folder
E: Singular expression refers to nonexistent object.

q: version of file "manage-bde.exe" of native system folder
A: 10.0.19041.1

Make sure you account for 64 bit redirection.
