Facing a Issue with Win Xp Sp3 deployment

(imported topic written by ryel.d91)

I’ m trying to install the Windows Xp sp3 patch (which is a fixlet) on the relevant desktops in bigfix however the action status on that desktops go into the “running” and then into “pending restrat”. After restarting the destops the action goes into “failed” state. Kindly let me know if this problem was faced by any one and how did they resolve it.

Hope to receive a reply soon.

Thanks,

Ryel

Hi Ryel,

If you do a test and try to install Win XP SP3 manually on those computers, does it give a failure?

Hi Ben,

Wanted to download the win xp sp3 setup and run it manually but this is not possible because this location is a remote locations (in another country) and many of these desktops are in production. The bigfix server is also in that country and i’m taking a RDP into the bigfix server and doing things. Though providing u the windows update log file located in (c:\windows) if you look at the end it does throw up some error coded (0x80072efd) have to refer to the microsoft website for this. But still i’m little confused when the process is into running and then pending restart state how can it fail when the desktop is restarted. The other fixlet/task messages do get deployed successfully.

Awaiting your reply.

Thanks

Hi Ryel,

It sounds like the service pack is failing to run, which might be a problem related to the service pack and not to BigFix and so I think you should focus your troubleshooting efforts on seeing why the service pack fails independent of BigFix…
