Hi Saravana,

You can do it through the Fixlet of Security Policy Manager site.

Hi,

I want to disable usage of data Card with USB interface (Ex: Reliance Netconnect), whenever Laptop users connect to the network. Once they come into the network, usage of data card should be completely blocked

I tried to block this but it is not working.

My Observation:

  1. I have installed “Disabe usage of PCMCIA device” fixlet from Task ( Security policy manager)tab.

  2. Then I connected my laptop to my network using Ethernet.

3.Then I conneted Relaince data card to my laptop in USB mode.

  1. After that , I tried to connect to Internet using Reliance data card.

Still I able to connect to the internet using data card.

Is there any other way to block that?

This is an very urgent requirement. Kindly help me in this.

I am looking forward for ur valuable reply.

Disabling the PCMCIA device with this method requires a restart. Did you restart your computer after you ran the Task?

Hi Ben,

Thanks for ur immediate reply.

After reboot , the status changed to “completed” in BES console.

I think this wil work, If I used PCMCIA slot card.

But I am using data card with usb.

My observation:(first i tried the PCMCIA blocking using PCMCIA fixlet -not worked, then i tried the below mentioned steps)

I inserted this data card at usb interface.

Then I tried to block USB using “disable usage of USB” from same security policy manager.

After that it is blocking USB devices like memory stick, but I able to connect to the internet using data card.

Is there any separate fixlet for the data card blocking.??

Please revert back…

Rgds,

saravana

Hey Ben,

Is there any updates?

Hi saravana,

If the device is not a usb device or a PCMCIA device, then it probably won’t work with our two Tasks.

Do you have a mechanism that can disable the data card from the command line?

Ben

No, I dont have Ben.

If we block completely an usb , then whatever device with USB interface wont work. ex:, data card, Bluetooth device etc comes only with USB interface.

Am i correct? If am wrong please advice…

Does it work for Expresscard too?

How do I disable it?

Or how do I disable other hardware such as Bluetooth?

Thank you
