Enable DHCP for Relay

Good afternoon! We are currently demoing BigFix and I’ve ran into an issue I’m hoping someone can shed some light on.

BigFix came in and setup a demo server and assigned a relay as well. The relay they setup was on a bum computer and I replaced it today. I then applied the Install Relay Task and it shows up now as a Relay. However, I can no longer pull DHCP when trying to PXE boot computers in our lab. Is there a specific task that needs to be ran to enable the service? They did not remote into the relay (to my knowledge) to have manually setup a service.

Thank you.

Hi!

It sounds like they might have set you up with bare metal imaging if you were using the relay as a pxeboot server. Does that sound familiar?

Youll likely want to make the new relay a bare metal imaging server. Instructions are available in the OSD user guide here: http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SS63NW_9.2.0/com.ibm.tem.life.doc_9.2/Lifecycle_Man/OSD_Users_Guide/c_managing_bare_metal_servers.html

Thank you for the reply.

I indeed did not have the relay added to the Manage Bare Metal Servers - Server Management section. I added the relay server and added a Profile as well in that menu section. I then went to Image Library and made sure that the profile was synced to the relay. Additionally I checked the settings on the relay from Bare Metal OS deployment section and it shows that both OS Deployment Service and ODBC service are running with zero errors in the logs. All this and it’s still not pulling DHCP during PXE.

Is the PXE Server plugged into the same network jack as the old one? Might you have DHCP ACLs enabled on the port of the managed switch?

Found the last problem…new PC didn’t grab a GP to turn off the local firewall, haha. Thanks for your help!
