is there a way to get an email notification at finish? no matter the end result (completed\failed)

Are you using a baseline to deploy the updates? If so, there is the notification process built into BigFix that can help you in kicking off a notification once the action has completed, or even customizing it to alert you when it is half-way through, for example.
