DuplicateRemoval tool not removing duplicates

(imported topic written by SystemAdmin)

We are trying to use BESDuplicateRemoval to remove duplicates. The program appears to execute correctly, prompts for removal of duplicates, but doesn’t appear to actually remove anything. Log file shows no errors.

Have executed this from a workstation using an account with management rights (I think), and have also executed on the primary BF server. Same result.

Will this process only work with a specific account?

Hi Mike,

Could you run it with the -l flag and post the output?

Example:

BESDuplicateRemoval.exe -l

What version of BigFix are you using?

We’re using BigFix 7.1.1.315.

Querying the database.

The following computers are duplicate entries:

Computer Name Computer_ID Last_Report_Date_and_Time(GMT)

1: XXXXXX 32382 2008-12-14 21:10:08.000

(for brevity, I removed the 70 or so entries…)

Would you like to remove these computers from the database? (Yes/No)

Attempting to erase database entries

Database updated, you may want to execute this script again to verify that all duplicate entries were removed.

If I run it again, the same duplicate entries are there. When I check the console, the devices are still there.

Hey Mike,

I suspect that you are running the tool as a user that doesn’t have permission to write to the database. So, the tool is able to find the computers but when it attempts to delete them it fails and the error isn’t being captured. Does this seem possible? If that doesn’t seem to be the case, could you call support and we’ll take a look at the database to see what’s going on?
