DSS-SAM v2

(imported topic written by SystemAdmin)

Has anyone else installed v2 yet? It looks like it has been thoroughly Tivolied…multiple component installations, installation folders all over the place (not even consistently under “IBM” or “Tivoli”), multiple scanners, SKBT installation required just for catalog updates(?), the initial import is 32% done after running for 3 hours on a dual core 3.5 ghz server with a remote SQL server using 1gb or RAM. Years later, I still don’t see any utility to clean up the uploaded inventory scan files for deleted computers on the BES application server, except now it looks like there are three scan files uploaded for each computer (1 from DSS-SAM v1x and 2 for DSS-SAM v2). I haven’t tried it yet, but I assume BESRemove will not clean up the v2 client installs on a system (the components are not identified in the BESRemove console).

Antonio Gallotti - Product Manager

The main intent of TEM SUA v2 was to extend its coverage to unix/linux world. As you might know we have another product in Tivoli that was doing same work as TEM SUA v2, that being Tivoli Asset Discovery for Distributed.

Yes, this release looks very disaggregated components, and this is because we wanted to provide the extension to unix/linux world quite soon rather than wating for the perfect fully integrated solution which we are targeting to anyhow.

Besdies of the additional compoenents I think it has been noticed now the product make usage of the Tivoli Endpoint Manager Analytics (TEMA) component which provides easier navigation, searching and filtering aggreagation of data as well as more felxibility in reporting and export of data.

You would have probably noticed that vs TEM SUA 1.x the procesisng of data does not block UI access anymore.

So we are going to improve and integrate components more and more as we progress, TEM SUA 2.0 is not the final stage and represents a balanced release between new capabilities and additional components to manage.

Hi Antonio,

your answer is now six months old, is TEM SUA 2.0 now in the final stage?
