DSS_SAM log-in issue

(imported topic written by SystemAdmin)

I am experiencing a log-in problem with DSS-SAM.

I had been logged in as myself, and all was working fine. After running an import and waiting for it to complete, I logged out. I closed the tab in IE, and then opened a new tab in the same browser. I went to the DSS-SAM url for my organization. I get the log-in screen momentarily, then get logged-in as user XXX automatically. I am able to navigate the UI, select reports (XXX’s non-shared reports), etc. just fine.

Then after a couple of minutes the screen goes away and simply has a circle with a ! in the middle of it.

Clicking the back button in the browser, I can get back to my home page screen and then use the browser forward button to again get back to the beginning – log-in screen/auto log-in as XXX / ! in circle screen.

I am currently on Version 1.2.4.546 and will be testing the new 1.3.1 release in the near future. This is seen in IE8

Sounds like some kind of client-site caching issue maybe. If you quit IE and make sure the process is really gone, and then restart IE, does the problem go away?

I’m not sure what’s generating that “! in circle” screen… I don’t think it’s the DSS SAM web app. It might be IE or Adobe Flash?

I have quit IE and been gone overnight. When I returned in the morning and restarted IE, the problem persisted. Whatever this is it would appear to be a rather significant security problem if I am automatically logged in as a completely different user simply by going to the log-in url.

I found some posts somewhere that the “! in circle” screen is an IE 8 thing that allows the user to select a compatibility mode. Has the DSS-SAM 1.2.4.546 been tested with IE8?

Yes, we’ve tested with IE 8. Question for you: at any point during your session did you actually select the choice to use compatibility mode (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956197#2)? Or was that setting checked by default before you started using DSS SAM?

No I did not check the compatibility mode in IE8 (I only discovered there WAS a compatibility mode after the fact!).

Last week we upgraded to v1.3.1, for the performance improvements, and so far have not experienced the issue again.

OK, thanks for the update. Please email me directly by clicking the “E-mail” link under my name if you see this come back. We’re having a hard time reproducing this in our labs, but it’s serious enough that we’d like to track it down.
