Domain controller slow to respond

(imported topic written by olsonc5891)

My domain controller missed the patch window since it did not respond or check in within the two hour action period. As a general rule it appears my domain controllers are very slow to respond, even when I send a refresh. I thought I read something a long time ago about port conflicts but can’t find it… How can I see how often they are checking in?

Thanks,

Chris

Ah, I think this is a port conflict issue.

Thanks. I did see instances of this error. However, the log from the server shows it was reporting successfully during the active period. (20:00-22:00). Despite that, the summary for the action on this server was

“Not yet reported”

Could the port issue still have been the cause of this?

My first guess is that you have a piece of content that is taking a long time to evaluate on your DCs. Maybe you have an analysis or task that is looking at the local users, and since it’s a DC, there could be thousands of results?

Just a guess, but i had a problem similar to that happen in my deployment once.

Yup, a bad analysis or a fixlet that’s taking a long time in the evaluation loop is what I would suggest looking for next. Luckily we have a number of tools that will help you do that described here:

https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/wikis/home?lang=en#!/wiki/Tivoli%20Endpoint%20Manager/page/Slow%20and%20Unresponsive%20Clients%20-%20Troubleshooting

I’d look specifically at the Client Usage Profiler which should tell you the biggest items your domain controllers are stuck evaluating.

Also on that same page is the “Client Debug Logging” part. I have used that in the past to identify possible issues. It is real good at providing info, just it is a lot of info and can take a bit to find what you are looking for.

Thanks everyone. I started with the port change but will follow up on the rest as I think that is more the issue. This is all very helpful.

Hi, were you able to resolve this issue? If so, what was your solution?
