Does IVR requires a separated database?

Hello guys,

I have a question regarding BigFix IVR and some database recommendations for BigFix.

Does BigFix Insights requires another database? We are using MS SQL and we would also like to know how many cores is required for BigFix itself and IVR as well.

We are planning to migrate to MS SQL 2019 and I couldn’t find any specific requirements of quantity of cores required and we need this info for licensing purposes.

FYI: Our environment has around 2500 computers as of now.

Thank you.

The short answer is yes.

Check out the BigFix Performance and Capacity Planning Resources here: https://bigfix-mark.github.io/

The BigFix Capacity Planning document will help you answer your questions as they relate to your environment.

Understand, and how about pay as you go? Who uses azure arc to connect to?

We will be licensing SQL Server 2022 standard and then connect to Azure Arc so that we can get the licensing “Pay as you Go”.

Thank you.

I don’t know about this scenario. Try contacting @bigfix.mark (Mark dot Leitch at hcl dot com).

Thank you, I’ll see if I can get an answer through direct message.

Not familiar with the “Pay as you go” plan but if the cost is “per-data” I would venture a guess that it’s not a good idea. The entire purpose of Insights is to aggregate data on certain frequency (the higher the frequency the more data it would store) and when you add vulnerability data via IVR, it will store even MORE data, so over time the cost can increase quite significantly… Of course, it will all depend on data retention you decide on; actual frequency; etc, so you do have some controls at your disposal but generally speaking I would be sceptical if the cost is based on size of data for a data aggregation service where big data growth is a given…
