Hi everyone,
I’ve already using the Remote Control with persistent machines - Virtual and Physical.
I’ve got a request to Implement it also with VMWare Horizon VDI solution - non-persistent machines.
I know that for Horizon there is the Helpdesk Tool solution for remote assistance.
I’ve asked why there want to use it also in the VDI realm although they are using the Helpdesk Tool solution from VMWare - the response was they want to consolidate the Remote Control assistant to one tool.
Wanted to ask the community if have you already implemented the Remote Control solution with this kind of request
Have a nice day!
Hello orbiton,
I never had the chance to test a Remote Control Target in a Horizon VDI but I saw customers that are successfully using Remote Control on a Citrix VDI. Also this is what happens for Azure Virtual Desktop:
When the remote machines are hosted on Azure on a Host pool of type “Personal” (each VM is assigned to a single user) and the Follow Active session feature is enabled, then you can use the Remote Control Target and connect to these remote VMs without problems.
Otherwise if the remote machines are hosted on Azure on a Host pool of type “Pooled” (each VM is shared among multiple users), then you have the same limitations which applies to a Windows Server VM that is you can’t connect to user sessions on a multi-session machine because the Follow Active session feature is not supported on these type of OS. That’s because on a multi-session VM there may be multiple users which are active (while on Workstations only one user can be active at time) and there is currently no mechanism to select a specific session among the list of detected sessions from the Controller. So on these type of VM you can only connect to the “physical” Console (the physical screen) session.
In order to figure out how Horizon implements the virtual desktop session and if this is supported by the Remote Control Target, you can install a Target on one of these machines and try to establish a connection once you have set FollowActiveSession to yes and see what happens.
They are using Instant Clone pool - Cloning a Virtual Machine with Instant Clone
I’ll try to create a Test Pool and check
Thanks
