Difference between adding active directory and adding LDAP server in bigfix

Please tell me what is the difference between adding active directory and adding LDAP server in bigfix.

I think that MAIN difference is that you need to define more information about the “Generic LDAP” connection then the AD one. Using AD BigFix can assume many things about how to talk to AD, that it can’t assume when talking to generic LDAP.

Basically wants SERVER and UserName/Password (if required)

When you chose to use the Generic LDAP, you need to be specific on how to talk to it and lookup information:

Things such as the PORT, use of SSL, but more important is the STRUCTURE of your LDAP install. What makes up the user name attribute (mail or uid), what the BASE DN is (dc=mycompany, dc=com) etc.
