Delayed, Outdated and missing Data

Hi There,

I am getting the below from my BIGFIX ILMT report.

Computers with delayed data upload status: 18%.

Computers with outdated capacity scans: 3%.

Computers with missing software scans: 5%.

What could be the issue?

Rgrds,
John Kimathi

There could be several possibilities:

  • Verify if the devices are properly reporting to BigFix. Check the last check-in times and ensure there are no communication issues.
  • Confirm that the ILMT Scanner is installed on these devices and is functioning correctly.
  • Review relevant ILMT actions to ensure they are executing properly. This includes checking the status of scheduled scans and data uploads.
  • Review & check ILMT import status

You can sync with IBM for further support & investigation.

Thank you @vk.khurava

Do I need ILMT Scanners yet am running BigFix and not disconnected scanners?

Regards,
John.

Yes, ILMT has its own scanners (current version 9.2.37.0) specifically designed for the collection of ILMT data. While BigFix provides a platform that facilitates this data gathering, the ILMT Scanners are essential for accurately collecting software usage information necessary for license compliance and reporting.

To be clear, you don’t need to manually download/install the disconnected scanners - but you do need to deploy the ILMT scanner.

I don’t use ILMT myself and I’m not sure whether the ILMT web interface is supposed to do this for you, but from inside the BigFix Console you should be able to run tasks from the IBM License Reporting (ILMT) v9 site. At Minimum I think you need to have open Policy Actions on

1	Install or Upgrade Scanner (9.2.37.0)	High	IBM License Reporting (ILMT) v9	0 / 0	0	Scanner	61.45 MB	IBM 7/25/2024

2	Initiate Software Scan (9.2.37.0)	High	IBM License Reporting (ILMT) v9	0 / 0	0	Scanner IBM 1/2/2024

3	Upload Software Scan Results (9.2.37.0)	High	IBM License Reporting (ILMT) v9	0 / 0	0	Scanner IBM 5/19/2023

If you use virtualization and sub-capacity licensing, then you also need to configure the VM Manager tool (to retrieve information from your Hypervisors) and to run the Capacity Scans (to retrieve information from your virtual machines) so ILMT can correlate them and check per-host processor utilization against subcapacity licensing. That adds the need to possibly run some combination of the following

20 Run Capacity Scan and Upload Results (9.2.37.0) High IBM License Reporting (ILMT) v9 0 / 0 0 Scanner 284 KB IBM 6/7/2024
80 Schedule VM Manager Tool Scan Results Upload (9.2.37.0) Low IBM License Reporting (ILMT) v9 0 / 0 0 VM Managers 284 KB IBM 7/22/2020
81 Install VM Manager Tool (9.2.37.0) Low IBM License Reporting (ILMT) v9 0 / 0 0 VM Managers 419 MB IBM 9/12/2024
85 Update VM Manager Tool to version (9.2.37.0) Low IBM License Reporting (ILMT) v9 0 / 0 0 VM Managers 419 MB IBM 9/12/2024
87 Run Capacity Scan on Virtualization Hosts (9.2.37.0) High IBM License Reporting (ILMT) v9 0 / 0 0 VM Managers IBM 7/15/2024
93 Create Capacity Configuration for Linux on z Systems (9.2.37.0) High IBM License Reporting (ILMT) v9 0 / 0 0 Configuration IBM 1/7/2019
102 Identify Computers on Public Clouds (9.2.37.0) Medium IBM License Reporting (ILMT) v9 0 / 0 0 Configuration IBM 6/7/2024

Thank you all for your help.

My audit reports are now clean after setting the period to fewer days than the 90 days
