Database connection error

(imported topic written by guneytarik91)

Hi,

I’ve installed BES with the evaluation settings. There was no database before installation. When i want to open BES Console, it says "an error occurred while attempting to connect to the database:Database error:

Microsoft

ODBC SQL Server Driver

SQL Server

login failed for user ‘tarik’. (28000:18456)"

Database:Enterprise Server

Username: tarik (I set it while installing BES)

Password: I set it while installing BES

Could you please help?

Did you make a specific ‘tarik’ user? I believe the user that is installed by default is ‘EvaluationUser’.

You can open BESAdmin (from the start menu) to make new users.

Hi,

I’ve tried to open BESAdmin. I was requested to enter the masthead.afxm file and i’ve found it in C:\Program Files\BigFix Enterprise\BES Server\wwwrootbes\masthead\ directory. After I’ve selected it, i was requested to enter site admin private key. I’ve pointed it in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Belgelerim\BESCredentials\license.pvk and then i’ve entered site admin private key password. After that,

"The database appears to be in an inconsistent state. Please contact your support representative.

Database error:

Microsoft

ODBC SQL Server Driver

SQL Server

Invalid object name ‘Versions’(S0002:208)"

Note:Though i’ve changed site admin private key, nothing fixed.

Thanks for your help!

If you installed an evaluation multiple times or requested multiple keys without wiping the previous version first, then this would happen…

You should run the BESRemove tool: http://support.bigfix.com/bes/install/downloadutility.html#besremove and then try the eval again (make sure you delete any .pvk or .afxm or .crt files that you made during previous installations.

Hi guneytarik,

I had the exact same error when I recently installed the console on my Windows 2008 RC2 server. Luckily I had Doug Coburn in with me a couple of days later and he pointed out that I was configuring my “Data Sources (ODBC)” with the wrong program.

It seems that a 32-bit application (the BigFix Console) can’t read the configuration settings when they are made with the default application that is pointed to by the “Start -> Administrative Tools -> Data Sources (ODBC)” shortcut.

The correct app to use is “C:\WindowsSysWOW64\odbcad32.exe”.

Once I had configured my Data Source with this app, I was able to log in to the console.
