Data moving between agents

(imported topic written by SystemAdmin)

One of the facilities in the old Tivoli Configuration Manager was something called the Data Moving Service that would allow data to be transferred between agents, collection of data from multiple agents to one agent or management server. I saw that someone opened an RFE (http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/rfe/execute?use_case=viewRfe&CR_ID=12524) on getting TEM to do this and it said it was delivered back in August (from what it appears), but I cannot seem to find any information on it. Does anyone have an idea on where to look for this?

What I am trying to do is get a file that is on a AIX server onto the TEM server and would prefer to do it with something other than a batch file that I use the windows scheduler to execute (which will work, but not “enterprise”).

Thanks

this would be helpful for us too. We are currently using the BigFix Upload Manager to move files around the envrionment because BigFix 52311 is open pretty much everywhere, and SMB isn’t.

Having another BigFix solution to do this would be great.

That RFE was marked “delivered” because it was believed that the requested feature could be satisfied by the Upload Manager.

Hi Noah,

Thanks for that info. I took a look at it and this will kinda be able to do what I need but not sure if it does all the steps. Since the file I need it to be on just happens to be the TEM server, it at least gets it to the TEM server. After it gets there, I then need to move it to the correct location.

I think what I am looking for and what that RFE was looking for was a more, um, functional data move. If you take a look at the following http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/tivihelp/v3r1/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.ibm.tivoli.itcm.doc%2Fcmmst120.htm&path=17_12_6_1_21 you will see all the features that the old TCM data move had.

Some of the key points:

  • Move data from one agent to another (or to multiple)
  • Move data from multiple agents to the server
  • Run pre and post scripts on the source and the target
  • select and source path and any destination path

So the Upload Manager has some of this basic requirement, but this is something that is used quite a bit.

Would you agree Chris (cstoneba)?

Yeah, just to be clear, I wasn’t taking a position… Just letting you know why the RFE got closed.

Perhaps it would be useful to open a new one that calls out the specific features missing from Upload Manager tool?

Hi Noah,

I was just reading the RFE again to be clear on what it asked. I think that the uploader met some of the requirements but really did not cover them all. I am not sure if an existing one can be reopened or we have to open a new one. I did make a comment in the existing RFE pointing to the wspmvdata command. I am also discussing this with L2 support and may open PMR (which will require a RFE).

I think I will mark this as answered as we know what is available at this point and hopefully we might get more features in newer versions.

Thanks
